Cup blow for Diss

26 November 2009

Diss Town will want to bounce back from their shock Norfolk Senior Cup defeat when they visit Gorleston in Ridgeons Division One on Saturday.

Defeat at the hands of Anglian Combination side Mattishall saw them make a fourth-round cup exit.

Diss 1, Mattishall 2 (aet)

Diss were knocked out in a deserved cup upset at Brewers Green Lane last Friday, writes Tony Collins. They opened the scoring when Stuart Jenkinson created an opening inside the area, which gave him a chance to shoot in low at the near post.

Gary Starling replied had an on target free-kick from 25 yards before Diss had a 'goal' ruled out following a great run from Peter Hooks. His low centre was turned in by a defender but Xavier Huckle was deemed to be offside.

Mattishall equalised after Webster came outside his penalty area wide on the left and fouled a forward. Starling curled his shot past the wall and in off a post.

Soon after Simon Wooden was ruled to have fouled as he rose to head in at a corner. Webster made a great double save to deny Luke Catchpole after Chris Hall took the ball off Stuart Garner and sent a cross to the far post.

Soon after Brendan Foley was back to clear after Joe Edwards rounded Webster.

Huckle was on target with a shot and George Pledger did well to use his feet to deny Sam Bryant following a pass from Jon Abbott.

Craig Skipp was wide with a chance seven minutes into extra time after Mattishall failed to clear a corner. Two minutes later a patient build-up ended with the ball being played out to Hall who cut in and sent a curling shot high into the net.

Seven minutes from time Matt Adcock reacted to a kick from Wooden by pushing the striker in the chest and was sent off. Skipp had a chance to take it to a replay but shot wide.
