The former Norfolk school of Princess Diana is closing this week after more than 75 years.

Riddlesworth Hall School, near Diss, has announced its closure this afternoon following "unprecedented financial challenges".

A spokesman from the school said they were all "extremely saddened" by the decision.

They said: "After much consideration and with a very heavy heart, it has been decided by the owner that the school is no longer viable.

"The school has been facing unprecedented financial challenges for several years now which is due, in part, to the impact of the pandemic and the current economic climate.

"Our priority now is to support our pupils and their families over the next few weeks to make sure that they are looked after during this unsettling period.”

The independent day and boarding school for children between two and 13 was attended by Princess Diana in the 1970s.

The closure was announced on Facebook with the post saying: "What treasured memories we have created over the years and how lucky we all feel to have been part of such a vibrant and nurturing school community.

"To our parents, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. We could not have asked for a more wonderful group of people to have with us through this final week.

"To our staff, who have shown the utmost dedication, thank you for providing a wonderful education for our students.

"It is well known that children remember the teachers who cared deeply for their wellbeing and put their heart into their work. For this reason, our staff will be remembered by so many students, both past and present.

"And to our children, who have kept the heart of Riddlesworth Hall beating, thank you for being such wonderfully creative, inquisitive, hard-working, caring, polite students.
