A lorry drove off a busy main road and into a hedgerow near a home in south Norfolk.

The HGV came off the A1066 Thetford Road in South Lopham around 12pm yesterday (October 19) just before the Redgrave Road turn-off.

It is believed nobody was hurt in the incident and the lorry was moved a short while later.

It comes amid calls for a reduced speed limit on Thetford Road due to a number of similar incidents happening.

One local, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims part of his house was demolished by a runaway vehicle on the same stretch of road in the 1990s.

The current speed limit on Thetford Road is 30mph, with the man asking for Norfolk County Council to instate a 20mph limit to reduce the possibility of accidents happening again.

In response, a Norfolk County Council spokeswoman said: "There are no plans to reduce the speed limit in the area at this time but, as with all parts of the Norfolk road network, safety records will be monitored and kept under regular review.

"We've looked at recorded collisions within the 30mph section of the A1066 in the village in the last five years and have found no personal injury collisions recorded by the police in this period."

The man added: "How long until one of these comes through your front window?"
