A teenager has been arrested after a car was dumped in a quiet Norfolk cul-de-sac after being spotted by police.

The car was initially spotted driving erratically on Victoria Road in Diss in a failed attempt to try and hide from a nearby officer.

The two people then abandoned the car down one of the nearby quiet cul-de-sacs where they took off on foot in an attempt to escape police.

Their escape failed when police found them promptly detaining them.

In the meantime, officers ran checks on the dumped vehicle where they found it was connected to an ongoing investigation into bilking (cheating people out of money).

One of the people, a man in his late teens, was arrested on suspicion of driving off from petrol stations without paying, having no insurance and no licence.

He was taken to Wymondham Police Station where he was arrested on suspicion of various offences including theft without consent, a public order offence, common assault, criminal damage, and theft.

He has since been released on bail.
