An annual charity mascot race is set to return, with activities, live music and more.

The Mascot Race will return to the Venetian Waterways in Great Yarmouth on Thursday, May 30 from noon.

Last year's event saw a number of beloved characters from local attractions compete for the coveted Mascot Race trophy at the Boating Lake, located at the northern end of the Waterways' seven-acre gardens.

This crowd-pleasing charity event, hosted by events coordinator for the Waterways, Lee Brown, promises excitement and fun for all.

Families and tourists are invited to join in cheering on their favourite mascots while enjoying a range of free arts and crafts activities at the Island Café.

In addition to these activities, attendees can also savour coffee, cakes and savoury snacks and listen to live music by singer, Simon Faye.

Mr Brown said: “After a fantastic first event in 2023, we’re going one better and creating an even bigger joy spreader for the local community.

"Not only are we raising money to support the continuing upkeep of this unique free to visit attraction, but we’re also giving other local businesses the opportunity to highlight their attractions or service.

"You can expect a great atmosphere, lots of laughs and plenty of boating lake drama.”

Proceeds from the event will go towards maintaining the grade II listed heritage park, which is currently managed by regional charity, Access Community Trust and also towards the charity’s sister café in Gorleston called STEAM, which provides day and evening Mental Health support for adults in the local community.

The Venetian Waterways were originally built between 1926-1928 and restored in 2019 with a £1.7m National Lottery grant.

The free-to-visit seafront attraction, teeming with a variety of plant life and wildlife, continues to attract plenty of visitors.
