Councillors have agreed to merge the planning management teams of two district councils.

In September Broadland and South Norfolk agreed to explore the possibility of closer working in a £25,000 feasibility study.

Broadland said the move aimed to “drive forward economic growth” and to address challenges around future funding of local government.

It comes at a time when planning fees are to increase to 20pc on January 22.

Broadland’s cabinet has now agreed to introduce an interim shared planning management team made up of a head of planning, development manager and a spatial planning manager.

The new structure will be in place by January 22 and will be reviewed every three months over the next year.

Officers were also given delegated authority to explore other opportunities regarding shared posts, but implementation would still have to go through a formal process.
