A man in his twenties was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a car and a motorcycle were involved in a crash at Pulham St Mary this morning.

The collision in Norwich Road happened at about 7am.

One fire crew from Harleston was sent to the scene along with police and ambulance.

The air ambulance landed in a nearby field for enable crews to attend the scene. A casualty was later airlifted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Clayton Hudson, South Norfolk councillor for Beck Vale ward, which covers Pulham St Mary, was on the scene shortly after of the accident.

He said: “I saw the aftermath after the air ambulance landed in a nearby field. It appeared that a car that had been going down the Norwich Road was turning right into Mill Lane at St Marys Garage and a motorcycle was coming from the Harleston direction.

“They had landed up on a grass verge. It was quite a dramatic scene. The motorcycle was complete crushed up. The air ambulance took off from the field shortly afterwards.”

Mr Hudson said emergency services had been quickly on the scene. He said: “We are very thankful to have a local retained fire crew who were nearby, along with the police and ambulance.”

A Norfolk Police spokesman said officers remained at the scene and highways services had been called in to deal with an oil spill on the road.
