About 1,300 youngsters and 700 volunteers took part in a county-wide Cub Scout camp at the Norfolk Showground this weekend.

The three-day event in Costessey, which ran from Friday until today(Sunday, saw girls and boys aged eight to 10 taking part in more than 100 individual activities.

The county camp, which only takes place every three or four years and was themed around the Olympics, was a chance for Cubs to meet other young people from all over Norfolk.

Mike Clemo, development officer for Norfolk Scouts, said it was a very popular event which had taken about 18 months to organise.

“There are 1,300 Cubs taking part,” he said. “Across the county we have 2,000 Cubs. That’s a huge percentage.

“There are a lot of tired people about but they have had a really good time – 1,300 kids have had a good time. The vast majority of the adults have had a good time as well.”

The Cubs had good reason to be tired having taken part in a wide range of activities over the three days, including a mini marathon – lasting 26 minutes instead of 26 miles – and an “It’s a Knock Out” competition.
