As a way of marking a town’s wonderful carnival, we certainly can’t think of a batter way to do it...

While people across the South Norfolk town of Diss busily prepare their shop displays and floats ready for the annual celebration this weekend, one fish and chip shop decided to go a bit further,

The Fair Green Fish Bar in Denmark Street created the Diss Carnival sign out of a giant cod, which they cut up to form the letters.

The idea for the sign came from owner of Fair Green and Diss Fish Kitchen Cemal Adigyzel, 36, who wanted to celebrate Diss Carnival in his own style.

Mr Adigyzel said: “I know how great Diss Carnival is and I wanted to support and celebrate it in my own way.

”The day is great for business in the town. Last years was amazing and I believe this year will be much better.”

Mr Adigyzel has been running fish and chip shops in Diss since 2008 and is an award winner being recognised by the National Federation of Fish Friers.

Some clever cutting allowed him to fit the pieces together to form the sign after laying the cod on cardboard to cut out the shapes.

He added: “This is the first time trying to make something like this and I wanted to see what I could actually do.

“I have now had people coming into the shop and asking people if I could do birthday signs for them.

“The sign in the video was actually the second sign I had made because the first time we had got the wrong date and put 218 not 2018.”

Diss Carnival is on Sunday, June 10 and hopes to be bigger than last year.

The carnival procession will start at Diss High School at 12.30pm and travel down Mount Street, through the Market Place and onto Mere Street before making its way to Diss park, where a day of fun awaits.

The park with have more than 50 different stalls and games for youngsters to get stuck into. Even our furry friends are getting involved, with dog shows throughout the day.
