Flood alerts are in place as persistent rain is brimming over onto the county’s roads.

Drains are overflowing in Norwich and some roads are expected to become difficult to pass.

Great and Little Plumstead Parish Council with Thorpe End Village has said they have seen “various spots of bad flooding”, including under the bridge at Green Lane North.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for areas around the River Waveney from Diss to Ellingham.

A spokesman said: “River levels are expected to remain high for the remainder of Saturday, peaking in the evening. The forecast is for further light rainfall across Saturday and Sunday.

“We are expecting river levels to gently rise over the course of Saturday before falling during Sunday morning. There is the possibility of some minor flooding to low lying land, roads and riverside gardens. Take care on riverside footpaths and don’t put yourself in any unnecessary danger.”
