A market town is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors for one its most eagerly anticipated events of the year.

On Sunday, June 17 Harleston will close its roads to traffic to allow more than 60 antiques stalls selling a range of goods to set up shop in the high street for the town’s annual Antiques and Vintage Street Market.

The fifth time the popular event has taken place, the day will kick off at 9.30am when dealers from across the region selling a range of items including antique furniture, clothes, crockery and collectables will erect their stalls in The Thoroughfare.

From 10.15am performers including local singing group Too Many Cooks! and Jelly Rollers’ amazing bubble-blowing musical cart and one-man bandemonium will be on hand to entertain people.

Throughout the day hungry visitors will be able to purchase street food from the likes of Duck Truck, Flying Chef, Squilla and Squidge and Pepperells.

Harleston Cider Company will also be selling its locally fermented cider alongside a bar offering a full selection of alcoholic beverages.

As the sun sets festivities will continue well into the night, as from 6.30pm the antiques stalls will disappear to make way for a community street party in the Market Place.

It will feature live music from the established Funk Soul Brothers and up-and-coming group Revelation Brothers, a folk duo who combine bluegrass, grunge, punk and Americana to create a unique sound.

Nicky Stainton, a member Harleston’s Future, which has organised both events, said: “Harleston people love to come together for a fun community event and we are very grateful to local business Musker McIntyre for sponsoring the evening.

“They, like us, are committed to ensuring that community ties are strong.”

On the day of the event, The Thoroughfare will be closed as far as Bullock Fair Close during the day, with access to the Co-op car park via Swan Lane and Paddock Road.

From 6pm Swan Lane will re-open but Market Place and Church Street will remain closed until 11pm, with diversion signs in place.
