Archant Norfolk 2013

There is just one month left to honour the people you know and love who show courage, determination and community spirit every day without even realising it.

The Stars of Norfolk Awards celebrates the real heroes and heroines in our region – but to recognise them, we need you to keep nominating.

Already readers have responded to our rallying call to share the names and selfless acts of young and old. But with just a month to go until the closing date – and two months until the glittering ceremony at Norwich Castle – there’s more to do.

One of last year’s winners, Ellie Fairfoot, 19, from Christchurch Road, Norwich, has urged anyone thinking about nominating a friend, family, neighbour, or work colleague to do so.

She said: “People will be touched that you even thought of nominating them, and to be awarded in Norfolk, in your community, it is really lovely.”

Miss Fairfoot was crowned Young Person of the Year at the debut awards evening after playing an invaluable part in the life of her 16-year-old brother Rory, who has autism.

“It was lovely just to be nominated and appreciated. I am more than happy to look after my brother, but it was just so nice to be recognised for stuff you do and think it goes unnoticed.”

The awards are in partnership with Norfolk County Council, district councils, the EDP and its many sister titles across Norfolk.

Anyone can be nominated in the 16 categories and several nominations can be made by one person.

The closing date for entries is Monday, October 13, with the awards evening on November 20.
