Major disruption for Norwich trains

PUBLISHED: 21:54 10 April 2012

A significant points failure just outside Norwich Railway Station has caused major disruption for train services this evening.

Services leaving the city were delayed as the failure, which happened just before 7pm, took until 9.10pm to fix.

Earlier in the evening, a lightning strike near London Liverpool Street Station also affected signalling.

The strike, which happened between 6.10pm and 7pm, affected services travelling north from London towards Norwich between 6pm and 8pm.

A spokesman for train operator Greater Anglia said: “There is now normal access in and out of all the platforms at Norwich but at this stage we still have trains running up to 30 minutes late, but from now onwards any trains that set off should run on time.

“We would like to apologise to passengers for the disruption and those affected by the problems tonight.

“For some people it will have been due to the lightning strike near London in the middle of the evening peak, while others will have been affected by this separate points problem at Norwich.”
