A 42-year-old man will appear before Norwich magistrates on May 14 charged with assaulting a South Norfolk Council employee.

Neil Toy is alleged to have punched Tony Cooke, the council’s housing standards manager, after he was unable to speak to a member of the council’s legal services team.

The incident happened at the council’s offices in Swan Lane, Long Stratton at 9.30am on Friday.

On Monday, council spokesman David Peel said: “We cannot comment on an incident which is the subject of court proceedings. Our colleague was hurt and shaken but is in work today. We await the outcome of court proceedings.”
