A new headteacher has been appointed at a Norfolk village primary school following the retirement of the previous head.

Vickie Newrick has taken over from Valerie Simpson, the previous headteacher at Hingham Primary School, who retired last year.

Mrs Newrick was the deputy head and became acting headteacher when Mrs Simpson retired.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed headteacher.

“I am looking forward tremendously to working with the pupils, parents and staff to lead the school to deliver the very best education, opportunities and support for our children in the future.”

Natasha Goddard, a school governor, said Mrs Newrick had consistently acted as a catalyst for improvements in the school and that her initiatives and strong leadership were singled out for high praise in the school’s Ofsted inspection last July.

Chairman of governors Mark Nixon added: “We know she cares passionately about making Hingham Primary School an outstanding place to learn.”

Mrs Newrick is married with two young children and enjoys walking and cycling and spending time with her family. She is an avid reader and loves novels about other countries and cultures.

She has been a deputy headteacher at the school since 2009.
