Organisers have hailed the success of the 17th Wymondham Music Festival, which came to a close at the weekend.

The annual event featured 16 days of entertainment, featuring 43 events, with a mix of Americana, classical, folk, world, jazz, swing, disco, funk, soul and early music in a range of venues across the town.

John Wood, Wymondham Music Festival chairman, said: “We are proud of our contribution to the cultural life of South Norfolk. I would like to thank all our volunteers, sponsors and audiences for their support, making Festival Fortnight such a rewarding experience.”

Some of the highlights of the festival included the Demon Barber Roadshow and Craig Milverton’s tour of 20th century jazz piano masters.

The festival began in 1996 as a small series of concerts and has grown to a two week event organised by volunteers.

Barbara Randall, festival secretary, who organises the programme of concerts and events added: “We had more really top events with a bigger variety of music genres than ever before. Numbers have been a bit down, but specialist audiences turned out for something they knew they wanted to see.”

“Our first coffee time event with The Squeegees was a great success. I’m very excited about the thought of planning next year. We already have some bookings confirmed. The outline of Festival Fortnight 2013 is already taking shape.”
