The extensive pursuit of a car that failed to stop in Norwich saw police rammed on the roads into South Norfolk before it ended in a search of land in Diss.

The police dog unit and a drone were used during a search for the occupants of the car after the police pursuit overnight.

The chase started in Cringleford, on the edge of Norwich, when police spotted a silver VW golf with fake number plates.

The driver failed to stop and a pursuit involving several police vehicles ensued through back roads of South Norfolk. The car being pursued eventually left the road near Diss Golf Course and suspects ran off.

Sergeant Chris Harris, of Norfolk and Suffolk Roads and Armed Policing Team, said during the chase the car reverse rammed one of the police cars.

He said the police drone using thermal imaging technology and dog unit had been called in to try and track the four people believed to be in the car, but despite best efforts they got away.

The large amount of police activity in and around Diss following the chase at about 9pm on Sunday prompted extensive speculation on social media.

Sgt Harris said there was no danger to the public during the pursuit but urged anyone with information about the car or driver to call 101 and quote CAD NC-14102018-424.
