A couple has celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary by raising hundreds of pounds for a peaceful nature spot.

Rita and Teddy Rowley marked four decades together by asking friends and family for donations to Quaker Wood, in Diss.

The pair raised £400 towards the woodland fund, and have had a commemorative plaque fixed at the gateway.

Richard Pither, secretary of the woodland supporters, said: “Quaker Wood has no regular income but is enjoyed by a wide range of people throughout the year free of charge. Therefore gifts of this nature are vital for the long term future of the amenity and a permanent plaque is a wonderful way to acknowledge special family occasions.”

A working party helps to maintain the wood on the first Saturday of the month, the next one being October 6 from 9.30am. Attendees are requested to bring a rake, fork, saw or loppers.
