Lowestoft Town swoop for Bury Town midfielder

11:37 18 June 2012

Lowestoft Town have raided Suffolk rivals Bury Town once again with the signing of Lee Smith.

The 24-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at Crown Meadow and follows in the footsteps of Danny Cunningham, who also crossed the divide earlier this month.

Smith has been the Trawlerboys’ number one target this summer as the Blues management team look to launch another all-out assault on promotion.

Diss withstood a determined fightback from Holt to win the annual clash for the Harrison Cup 38-28 at Mackenders. Diss romped into a 24-0 lead before Holt’s Ollie Wastnage got a great try on the stroke of half-time. He got another early in the second with a fine solo effort, using his pace to outstrip the Diss defence. Ashley Woods then took a quick tap penalty to crash over under a pile of bodies before Rob Gray bulldozed his way through to give Holt a four point lead. Diss then put a stranglehold on the game to get a deserved win. Tom Harrison led out Holt’s team while his father Chris presented Diss with the trophy.

A credible away point was not enough to prevent Diss Town’s long-standing threat of Premier Division relegation from becoming a reality.
