The tennis at Wimbledon will be amongst the broadcasts on the big screen on Chapelfield Plain this summer.

All the excitement, joy, tears and glory of the Olympics will be broadcast on the Chapelfield Plain big screen in Norwich this summer.

Chapelfield will be one of just 22 official London 2012 ‘live sites’ in the country, as a result of a partnership between Norwich City Council, the London 2012 Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG), the BBC and Chapelfield.

As well as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, throughout July and August, there will also be coverage of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the Wimbledon tennis semi-finals and finals.

Norwich City Council’s leader, Brenda Arthur, right, said: “The Big Screen Live Site is a wonderful attraction for Norwich, and I hope it will become a real focal point for this year’s Games and a place where people can come together to join in the excitement and celebrate the UK hosting such a significant event.”

Among the Olympic broadcasts on the Chapelfield big screen will be live coverage of the Olympic Torch Relay arriving in Norfolk and making its way through Norwich on Wednesday, July 4.

The full coverage of the Olympics will then begin on Friday, July 27, with the London 2012 opening ceremony and continuing all the way through to Sunday, September 9, when the Paralympic Games comes to a close.

Bill Morris, London 2012 director of ceremonies, education and live sites, added: “This great community facility will be a focal point for celebrations around the Games in Norwich this summer.”
