A Poringland father and daughter will be heading to this summer’s London 2012 Olympics, after matching an Olympic record while watching television.
John Hooper, 39, registered for BT’s Record Breakers campaign to win tickets for the Games and then won by watching a total of six on-demand programmes, matching the record set by Sir Steve Redgrave, who won six Olympic rowing medals between 1984 and 2000.
Now John and his eight-year-old daughter, Emily, are going to see the gymnastics at London 2012.
John is planning to take Emily to London to look around the Olympic Village and soak up some of the atmosphere as she is a keen swimmer who is soon to start swimming competitively.
He said: “This really is a once in a lifetime experience, you can’t beat the chance to see such a great event so close to home.”
