Quick double from Wessels sets Magpies on road to comfortable win

Harleston Magpies Ladies retained their third place in the league by adding three points to their tally on Saturday.

Magpies took control of the game from the starting whistle with strong, positive, attacking play, and effectively had the points wrapped up at the break after taking a 3-0 lead.

The quick start resulted in the first two goals being scored in quick succession by Susan Wessels.

For the first she slipped the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs and for the second she converted with a reverse stick shot from a tight angle.

The positive play continued with accurate passing and good movement from Magpies, which resulted in another impressive reverse stick goal by Emma Lee-Smith.

In the second half there were no more goals and this was largely due to a change of tactics from Horsham who pressed high, reducing the opportunity for the flowing movement and passing Magpies had produced in the first half.

Charlotte Lee-Smith had to make a diving save to the right post to prevent Horsham scoring from a short corner but the hosts comfortably saw out the game.

Magpies now have their first break of the season and will be looking to keep up the good work when they resume against Sevenoaks at home on November 8.
