Norwich United’s triple title attack continues unabated after a 4-0 demolition of Gorleston in the Norfolk Senior Cup.

The Planters eased their way into the semi-finals, a week ahead of an FA Vase fourth round clash at Ashford United – whilst still leading the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, by a massive nine points.

A four-goal blitz inside 17 second-half minutes was enough to see off the Cup holders and put United into the semi-finals at Plantation Park – the league’s leading scorer Mathew Blake got two of them, with one apiece from Ben Thompson and Paul Cook.

While United were leaving the Greens in their wake, the leading pack were kept at arm’s length. Godmanchester were without a game – they haven’t played since December 20 – while third-placed Newmarket Town were held to a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Wanderers and Kirkley & Pakefield, one place behind, drew 1-1 at home to Haverhill Rovers.

Kyle Baker put Kirkley ahead after 37 minutes, but the visitors levelled 21 minutes before time.

At the bottom end of the table, there was a welcome point for Diss Town who drew 2-2 at Mildenhall Town. The Tangerines were 2-0 down at one stage but goals from Kyle Downes (67 minutes) and Stefan Gilding (88) earned them a draw.

Thetford Town’s game at Whitton United was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

In the First Division, Great Yarmouth Town moved up to sixth place after a 4-1 home win over Woodbridge Town, while King’s Lynn Town’s reserve side were 3-1 home winners over cross-border neighbours March Town United.

The Bloaters are reaping the benefits of their recent signing from Lowestoft Town, Dale Cockerill, who opened the scoring after three minutes, scoring from close range from Nick Bailey’s cross.

Mitch Forbes made it 2-0 with just 10 minutes on the clock, with Bailey again the provider.

Yarmouth made it 3-0 after 36 minutes when Leighton Crux’s cross found Jay Turner and his shot gave keeper Adam Wilson no chance.

Turner increased the lead after 38 minutes with a superb effort from 20 yards before the visitors got a consolation from Sam Cole.

Luke Biles gave King’s Lynn Town a first-half lead with Jack Frohawk making it 2-0 before Denny Escorcio scored for the Hares. Frohawk’s second goal sealed the points.

Downham Town went down 2-1 at Haverhill Borough, having taken the lead after 12 minutes through Mark Smith, only to see their hosts snatch the points in time added on.
