Lowestoft rockers The Darkness set to support Lady Gaga during her UK and European tour

THEY’VE taken the world by storm - and Suffolk’s most successful rockers are now set to support music sensation Lady Gaga later this year.
Lowestoft’s favourite rockers The Darkness today announced that they will support Lady Gaga during her three UK and Ireland performances in September.
And, just over a year since they made a rousing return to music, The Darkness will also line up alongside Lady Gaga for 18 other shows as part of her Born This Way Ball European tour.
The revival of the reunited rockers has been gathering pace in recent weeks as they tour the globe.
And from August they will join Lady Gaga for her European spectacular, which includes performances at London’s Twickenham Stadium on September 8, Manchester MEN Arena on September 11 and a one-off date in Ireland at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium four days later.
The Darkness, which features former Kirkley High School pupils Justin Hawkins, his brother Dan Hawkins and Ed Graham, and Scotsman Frankie Poullain, reformed in March last year after a “five year hiatus.”
A spokesman for the band, who are currently in Australia - having returned to a land down under for the first time in six years, said: “The Darkness are honoured to announce their addition to the bill as main support for Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball tour 2012.”
After time in Australia and America next month, the jet-setting band are off to Sweden, Spain, Italy and Serbia in June - as well as performing at the Isle of Wight Festival.
It’s back to Suffolk on July 14, as The Darkness perform at Thetford Forest, before they support Guns ’n’ Roses on July 22 in Spain.
The European tour with Lady Gaga is scheduled to start in Bulgaria on August 14.
In February The Darkness hit the headlines as their signature tune - I Believe in a Thing Called Love - from 2003 stormed to the number one slot in America’s download rock charts after the song featured in an advertisement during the Superbowl, which was watched by an estimated 100 million people across the Atlantic.
