A fortnight of live music will return to Wymondham for the seventeenth year running.

The Wymondham Music Festival Fortnight will feature BBC Folk Awards 2009 Live Act winners The Demon Barber Roadshow and a total of 43 events, many free of charge.

From Saturday, June 23 to Sunday, July 8, the town will play host to Americana, classical, folk, world, jazz, swing, disco, funk, soul and early music bands across a range of venues.

Festival chairman John Wood said: “We have an exceptional programme this year.

“Festival Fortnight is going to be a real treat for music fans, with its superb mix of classical, folk, jazz and world music.

“Everyone should come along and mark this year of celebration in our historic market town.”

The festival will kick off with the combined jazz bands from Wymondham High and the Jazz Band of the Gymnasium Waldstrasse Hattingen, in Wymondham Market Place at 10am on Saturday, June 23.

This will be followed by the annual Midsummer Jazz Picnic with the DixieMix Band at Becketswell on Monday, June 25, 6pm - 9pm.

Norwich’s Claire Barker Band bring in the disco, funk and soul on June 29, while Craig Milverton, UK Jazz Pianist of the Year 2010, will pay homage to 16 of the great jazz pianists on July 5 at 7.30pm,

There will an evening of Afro-Cuban music from Cuarteto Guarachando on July 6 at 8pm, while for the more classically minded, there is A Little Bit of Gershwin on June 28 at 7.30pm. Karen Harries (mezzo soprano) and Will Fergusson (piano) will play music from George and Ira Gershwin and their contemporaries.

There will also be the chance for the musical youth of the region to show what they can do in The Kickstart Sessions - performances from young bands at Ketts Park Centre - on Saturday, June 30 from 11am to 5pm, presented in association with SNYA Radio and Woodshack Rehearsal Studios.

Tickets for all concerts and workshops are on sale at the Book Fountain, Whartons Court, Wymondham, or via email on office@wymfestival.org.uk.

A discount of £2 is available on all tickets bought by the end of June 22.
