TWO Diss High School teachers helped raise funds for a school trip to Sri Lanka by jumping out of a plane at a Norfolk airfield.

Suzie Johnson and Joss Outred, who teach English, "jumped for Jalthara" when taking part in tandem skydives at Old Buckenham.

The skydiving duo have so far raised more than 500, which will go towards a trip to their link school in Sri Lanka.

Eleven students and four staff are set to visit Jalthara in October where they will be taking learning resources and teaching lessons in English, dance, music and PE.

The link between Diss High School and Jalthara Maha Vidyalaya, a rural school for six-16-year- olds, was started in 2005 and has grown in strength ever since. Students from Diss have collected books, games and stationery which have been sent out to the school and many students also have a Sri Lankan penfriend.

Donations to the trip can be made by contacting Rosanna Ellis on 01379 641255or Suzie Johnson at Diss High School on 01379 642424.
