The public has been warned to stay vigilant after victims across Norfolk were targeted by a man pretending to be a police officer.

Three victims in the south and north of the county received telephone calls this week from the man claiming to be a detective.

The caller told them that their bank cards have been cloned and money has been taken in an attempt to gain their banking information.

All attempts were unsuccessful.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Constabulary said: "Never give out personal information about your bank account to anybody over the phone.

"Police and banks will never ask you to give out personal details such as account numbers or PIN numbers."

Fraudsters are known to play ringtones, hold music and recorded messages down the phone so the victim believes they are making a call to a legitimate number.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Norfolk Constabulary on 101 quoting ‘Operation Radium’.

Alternatively, witnesses can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
