A pooch who was rescued in the USA has found herself back in care five years later.

Maya was rescued at a year old and brought over to the UK when her previous owners moved here three years ago.

But following a change in their personal circumstances, the six-year-old bloodhound cross was handed over to PACT Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk.

After struggling in kennels, she was placed in a foster home.

Her foster parents said: "Maya has one of the sweetest natures going.

"She is super affectionate, adores cuddles and will skilfully use her front paws to guide your hand to her tummy for scratches.

"Maya enjoys long walks but she has a fairly high prey drive so will chase squirrels, rabbits and other small creatures, so would be safest being allowed off-lead time in an enclosed paddock.

"Generally, she is very friendly around other dogs, but can be a little boisterous in her play, which smaller dogs may find overbearing."

Maya will need to be the only pet in the home, but could live with "dog-savvy" children aged 12 plus.

A spokeswoman at PACT added: "Maya is never happier than sat snuggled on the sofa or bed with you having her belly rubbed or her head scratched.

"She is such a loving dog and would make an amazing companion."
