A 48-year-old woman has been spared jail after admitting she stabbed a man in the chest with a kitchen knife.

Sharon Spencer, of Farm Drive in Fakenham, appeared before Norwich Crown Court yesterday after admitting to grievous bodily harm at a previous hearing.

She was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activity and 250 hours of unpaid work.

The stabbing happened at the man's home on November 2, 2022, following an argument.

The man managed to flee to a nearby shop for help, but Spencer followed him and tried to get into the shop.

After staff members called the emergency services, the man was taken to hospital for treatment and Spencer was arrested.

DC Steve Donovan, who led the investigation, said: “Spencer’s actions were incredibly dangerous and could have had fatal consequences.

"I hope this sentence reassures the public that we will thoroughly investigate, support victims and follow the evidence to present a compelling case before the court that tells the story of what happened.”

During the investigation, officers used witness statements from the shop staff and CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding area to corroborate the witness statements, as well as medical reports which detailed the extent of the victim's injuries.
