PETER Mickleburgh retired from Mulbarton Parish Council on his 70th birthday, after an amazing 42 years as a councillor. This included two periods as chairman, and several more as vice-chairman of the parish council and as an independent district councillor.
PETER Mickleburgh retired from Mulbarton Parish Council on his 70th birthday, after an amazing 42 years as a councillor. This included two periods as chairman, and several more as vice-chairman of the parish council and as an independent district councillor. His retirement marks the end of a long association of the Mickleburgh family with Mulbarton Parish Council, his father and brothers having served as councillors.
Ten former parish councillors - including three former chairmen - and a former district councillor met on Monday, March 9 to celebrate this achievement and to thank Peter Mickleburgh for a lifetime's service to his village. Robert Preston, another former chairman, proposed a toast and presented him with a certificate and card to mark his 42 years. In his comments, Mr Preston remarked on the Mickleburgh family's association with the building of Mulbarton and of Peter's work with other councillors in getting the common back into shape among many practical activities to benefit the village.
