Further steps have been made towards plans to build a £9m new leisure centre and swimming pool in Diss.

Plans for a new leisure centre are being examined with the town's leisure facilities said to be "next on the list" following improvements in Wymondham and Long Stratton.

Diss district councillor Graham Minshull said South Norfolk Council had now assigned an officer to oversee progress on the project.

He told a meeting of Diss Town Council the scheme would likely cost about £9 million and it could be four or five years before work starts as alternative land was needed as the current site on Victoria Road is too small.

The existing leisure centre dates back to the old open air swimming lido that the district council took over in 1974 with a roof being added in the 1980s.

South Norfolk Council has recently invested £4m at Wymondham Leisure Centre and £2m into the redevelopment of Long Stratton Leisure Centre.
