Plans have been submitted for a £650,000 scheme to ease long running traffic problems in Diss.
Designs for improvements to increase the size of the mini-roundabout between Vinces Road and the A1066 Victoria Road, a junction that often sees long tailbacks, have been included in an application by Norfolk Council County.
The scheme requires the compulsory purchase of land to build a second approach lane to the roundabout on Vinces Road and discussions between the council and landowners are still ongoing to secure it.
It is one of two projects, along with the pospoed £250,000 new link road between Station Road and Nelson Road, given the funding go-ahead by the council last year. Businesses on Vinces Road, which had long complained about congestion, welcomed the schemes.
In the planning application report, NPS Property Consultants, part of the council controlled Norse group, states: "The purpose of the highway improvement development is to address concerns raised over a number of years regarding traffic congestion within Diss, including Vinces Road.
"For vehicular traffic, the only way to exit Vinces Road is via its junction with the A1066 Victoria Road. At peak times, traffic experiences significant delays."
