Snow had blocked the road for most of Thursday making it impassable between the Pulham roundabout and Long Stratton.

Farmers and nearby businesses stepped in and worked tirelessly during the day to try and clear a route.

To make sure their efforts were not hindered by more drifting snow, farmers Jonathan 'Jono' Nurse and Jonathan Alexander worked overnight to move the snow off the road.

This morning (Friday) they were rejoined by farmers Ray Ford, Graham Moore and Robert Alexander, and Chris Kent of Kent Skips.

And by mid-morning they had cleared both lanes from Pulham to Long Stratton.

South Norfolk and parish councillor Clayton Hudson, who was also part of the clearing team, said the helpers had been given authority to work on the road by Norfolk County Council.

'There was only one lane open this morning which was not really good for anyone,' he said. 'There is always going to be people who are going to make essential journeys.

'We just needed to get it clear.'

The volunteers were given coffee and bacon rolls from Goodies Food Hall at Pulham Market as a thank you for their efforts.

Mr Hudson added: 'Drifting snow is always going to be a problem on that stretch because it is open and the snow was blowing directly off the fields.

'Hopefully if there is no huge amount of added snow fall, we don't see any reason why we could not keep that route open.'

Due to more snow forecasted this afternoon and into this evening police are asking people to consider leaving work to travel home earlier and to not travel unless necessary.
