Brexit and broadband were on the agenda when South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon met business leaders at a 'Breakfast with Bacon' event organised by Diss Business Forum.

Around 40 members and guests were at Diss Golf Club to share views with their local parliamentary representative on a range of issues affecting not only businesses but all constituents.

Mr Bacon, who campaigned in favour of Britain leaving the EU, said he was happy the Eastern region voted overwhelmingly for Brexit in the referendum.

Responding to questions about when some villages in South Norfolk might have access to superfast broadband, Mr Bacon said he, along with other MP's, had been meeting with BT Openreach and felt access to higher speeds in villages was improving.

On concerns about a perceived skills shortage in the workplace, Mr Bacon backed the German model of apprenticeships mixing training with education resulting in a job at the end of the scheme, an idea he said would also help increase productivity.

Diss Business Forum chairman Kerry Kirby said the event was valuable in helping shape opinion. She said: 'It's important for our local MP to hear the views and concerns from those whose companies help the town thrive.

'Hopefully it helps to inform Richard's work representing the area at Westminster. We hope we can welcome him back again in the future.'
