A popular fish and chip shop is to give out free fish and chips on Christmas Day to those in need.
In a repeat of the amazing act of kindness and goodwill which won Baileys Fish and Chips a 2017 Stars of Norfolk and Waveney Award, the Diss-based store will stay open on December 25 to deliver vital food packages.
The shop, in Shelfanger Road, is looking for suggestions on where to send the food packages while also opening on the day, to make sure no-one spends the most special time of year alone.
Cengiz Bolat took over the shop with his business partner Cemal Kayguszuz in January last year.
Mr Bolat said: “We want to do something for the local care homes in case they need anything on Christmas Day.
“Plus anyone who comes into the shop, and is in need during this time, will receive their meal for free.”
The fish and chip shop opened its doors last year to offer support to people at Christmas.
After putting the word out on social media, it received numerous messages of support and gratitude from not only Norfolk but across the country.
Mr Bolat, 42, added: “The reaction last year was very good. We had locals and people from all over the world giving us calls and messages in support. We had people calling from America and South Africa offering their support.
“We just wanted to give people who may be alone at Christmas that special feeling.”
Last year, members of the community donated chocolate, cakes and a number of items for people to take away with them.
Mr Bolat said it would not be possible to stay open without the support from his regular customers.
He said: “We want to give something back to the community after they support us so much. We want to invite people in over Christmas and give something back to by opening the shop for them.”
The shop will be open from 3pm until 8pm on Christmas Day. It is hoping to make food packages for surrounding care homes and communities to be delivered on Christmas Day.
