A popular event that sees families drop teddy bears by parachute from the top of Billingford Mill will take place this month after previously being cancelled after an email mix-up.
Julie and Herbert Websdell, custodians of the mill between Diss and Harleston, were left heartbroken after taking the decision to cancel it last month because grass on the surrounding common land had not been cut and posed a risk of fire. However hours after announcing the cancellation they received an email from landowner Sir Rupert Mann to say the grass would be cut after all.
A rearranged drop will now go ahead on Sunday, September 29 from 2.30pm with prizes for the teddies that go the furthest.
The couple, who have devoted 15 years to looking after the mill as it undergoes restoration, said the teddy bear event was a highlight of the year along with the Easter egg hunt.
Teddies with parachutes will be for sale on the day, children 50p, adults £1. The mill will also be open for tours from noon to 4pm.
