Primary school children organised their own foodbank collection after being shown first-hand how the charity helps people in the community.

Pupils from Bressingham Primary School took a delivery of groceries and other valuable household items to Waveney Fooodbank’s collection centre in Vinces Road, Diss.

They were shown how the Trussell Trust operation works, including how the food is distributed and the items needed to create food parcels.

As a result the pupils organised their own collection, promoting their appeal using hand-made posters, with donations of groceries soon piling up.

Bressingham Primary School headteacher Gavin King said: “Our teaching staff feel very proud that these children were inspired to help the Waveney Foodbank.

“The children visited the foodbank and found out about how the charity works. They then took responsibility for a big project and organised for people to bring in their food.

“The project has provided a good understanding of helping the local community, as well as an appreciation of voluntary involvement.”
