Two men will be travelling the River Waveney from source to mouth, mainly by canoe, to raise money for two charities.
Geoff Doggett and Stewart Orr, both 62 and who live in the Harleston area, are making a stand for the three things that they both feel passionately about - the work of the RNLI, the facilitation of eye operations in third world countries and the local environment of the Waveney valley.
Mr Doggett, a trans-Atlantic yachtsman, knows the value of the lifeboat service, and Mr Orr has suffered two cataracts and a detached retina and knows only too well the value of sight.
The charities to be supported are the RNLI lifeboat at Lowestoft, and the floating hospital The Boat of Life, in Bangladesh, with cash raised evenly split between the two.
The trip starts on foot on Sunday from the source of the river at Redgrave and Lopham Fen. The canoe will be launched a short distance further on where the river becomes navigable and, all being well, the pair will complete their voyage in Lowestoft a week later.
