Proposals to extend a south Norfolk care home look set to be refused because they would be contrary to policy and would have a detrimental impact on a Grade-II listed building.
Kingsley Carehomes has submitted plans to South Norfolk Council to build a large two-storey extension at the back of Scole Lodge at Scole, near Diss, to provide 20 more residential rooms with communal facilities for people with dementia.
A report to planners states that the application has been submitted because previous approved proposals do not meet the requirements of the Commission for Social Care Inspection regulations and recommendations of the Care Standards Act 2001. A listed- building application has also been submitted and is to be determined as a delegated decision.
The report says: “It is considered that the proposed scale of the extension would result in an over-dominant design, which would adversely affect the character and appearance of the listed building. The proposed extension provides an additional 1047sq m of floor space, which more than doubles the existing floor area…”
The application is due to be considered at a meeting of the council's south-west area planning committee today.
