A colourful summer celebration in Diss that delighted watching crowds has brought a welcome boost for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Yesterday carnival queen Charlotte Cox presented the charity with a cheque for £1,250 from the profits made at last month's carnival which was enjoyed by thousands of people.

Jess Downs, deputy fund raiser for the air ambulance, said: “We are honoured to have been chosen. The amount donated is fantastic and we will put it to great use.”

The carnival committee will also be making a welcome donation from the proceeds towards this year's Diss Christmas lights display.

Spokesman Jane Trippett-Jones said: “We chose the air ambulance because it is a good cause, and obviously we are so far from the hospital here that could affect the need for the ambulance.”

She added that the Newfoundland dogs display team, which staged a simulated rescue in the mere during the carnival, also supports the charity.
