The Pennoyer's Village Centre project in Pulham St Mary was boosted when the recently disbanded Pennoyer's Building Preservation Trust (PBPT) handed over a cheque for £1,568.24.
The PBPT was formed in 1995 by a group of villagers who were concerned about the future of the school, which was becoming increasingly dilapidated.
In 2001, plans were drawn up to demolish the Victorian part of the building and restore the Guild Chapel into a museum, surrounded by a village green, but these proposals were rejected by English Heritage and South Norfolk Council.
Now that the school is set to be restored and converted into a village centre, Jenny Surey, on behalf of the preservation trust, said: “The trust is confident that its aims are close to becoming a reality through the work of the Pennoyer's Village Centre team and is pleased to hand over its remaining assets to the restoration fund”.
