A local charity is seeking planning consent to convert at house at Diss into accommodation for homeless single people.

Solo Housing is proposing to turn number 32 Victoria Road into three 1-bedroom flats and three studio flats, one of which will be fully wheelchair accessible. The development would also provide a parking area at the rear of the property, a communal bicycle shed and laundry block, and a shared community area with bin store.

The building was used as a post office until 2003, and then for residential purposes only. The property was bought by Solo last year and is currently used as a shared hostel for four homeless people, who would move into more permanent accommodation.

There is a shortage of housing for 16 and 17-year-olds in the area, and South Norfolk Council has requested that one of the flats should be reserved for people in this age group while their needs are being assessed.
