A rural benefice is aiming “to bring the church to the people” with a new information marquee, available for local summer fetes.

The marquee, called The Rhythm of Life, will offer information on weddings, baptisms and funerals in the Church of England.

In the main marquee, as well as information, there will be a colourful “prayer wall” where anyone can add their own prayer requests, and there will be cards and books for sale.

Leading from the main marquee will be two smaller tents - one offering a quiet space where visitors can talk with trained listeners or simply relax with a cup of tea. The other will provide a sensory area with coloured lighting, calming aromas and loungers and offering relaxation, meditation and prayer.

The rector of Dickleburgh and The Pulhams, Canon Janice Scott, said: “We know that so many people would like to get married or have their baby baptized in church. But so often they don't know how to approach us. We're aiming to take the church to the people rather than expecting them to come to find us. We hope to be able to demonstrate in a very practical way that God is there for them in all the ups and downs, and in all the stresses and strains - in fact in all the rhythm of life.”

The Rhythm of Life is to be launched by the Archdeacon of Norfolk, the Ven David Hayden, on Sunday at 3pm in the garden of the Rectory at Pulham Market.
