A weeklong clean up in Diss began on Tuesday to encourage residents to take pride in their town.

Local agencies will be joining forces during the neighbourhood action week to enhance the environment and improve the quality of life for townsfolk.

During the course of the week the streets of Diss will be cleared of graffiti, litter and fly-tipping by South Norfolk Council teams and there will also be a 'rubbish amnesty'. Police will increase patrols and enforcement action and launch a new scheme to drive down alcohol-fuelled crime.

Insp Stuart Chapman said: 'Diss is a safe town that we should be proud to live and work in. Keeping it safe is the job of the police, partner agencies and all the people who live and work here.'

'With additional police resources, we will be stepping-up our work to tackle some of the local policing issues and will be asking residents to identify any other problems we can work with them to solve.'
