Houses in Diss could be left with electricity for hours after a power cut caused when a cable was damaged.

UK Power Networks received reports from families left without power at shortly before 1.30pm today in areas of the IP22 4 postcode.

Engineers have been sent to fix the problem but the company warned households could be left without power until well into the evening.

A spokesman from UKPN said: 'Engineers are on their way. The issue is a damaged cable caused by another company and is affecting the Uplands Way area.

'Until an engineer arrives on site, it's difficult to give a time of restoration. Using an average timescale for this type of power cut in the area, we're looking to have the power back on between 6pm and 7pm. However, as the repair progresses; this may change.'
