A deer that became stuck in a gate at a South Norfolk school prompted firefighters to be called in to release it.
Teachers at All Saints Primary School in Winfarthing called 999 at shortly after 8am today (April 12) after hearing the cries of the animal that was entrapped.
A fire crew from Diss were called in to help free the small wild muntjac using a crowbar to prise open the wooden slats of the school gate.
The teachers who raised the alert were at the school for a training day otherwise the building would have been closed for the Easter holidays.
The deer suffered no injuries and was released back into the wild. Muntjac, a non-native species that originate from China, have become an increasingly common sight in Norfolk. Their numbers have increased rapidly and they can be spotted in shrubby areas.
