Diss Junior School rated ‘inadequate’ following inspection

A primary school has been rated “inadequate” and put in special measures following an inspection which said leaders had not addressed a number of issues highlighted in previous reports.
The report for Diss Junior School comes after two previous reports in 2014 and 2015 deemed the school as “requiring improvement”.
The most recent report, published on June 8, said: “Since the previous two inspections in which the school was judged to require improvement, leaders, including governors, have not addressed variations in the quality of teaching and learning quickly enough.
“Too much remains less than good.”
However a spokesman from the school said: “Although the school is graded inadequate overall, it has strengths that we can build on.”
Inspectors found “leaders were not being held sufficiently to account to improve pupils’ achievement and raise standards in the school”.
The report also found that leaders, including school governors, were able to account for the impact of the pupil premium grant in improving the achievement of disadvantaged pupils at the school.
Following the findings of the report, Ofsted inspectors have suggested that the school be put into special measures as: “It is failing to give its pupils an acceptable standard of education.”
Despite there being a number of criticisms within the report, inspectors found the school was providing a broad and balanced curriculum, which included a range of school visits and extra curricular activities.
“Pupils are safe and know how to keep themselves healthy and safe, including online.”
A spokesman for the school said: “Children benefit from a varied curriculum, are safe at school, have good relationships with their teachers and are very well-behaved.”
“Since this inspection, the interim executive board has taken on the governance of the Diss Community and Church Primary School Federation.
“We are already making good progress in addressing the issues highlighted in the Diss Junior School report and are confident that we can help the staff make rapid improvement.”
