A town centre pub at Diss has been granted an extension to its licensing hours despite claims by the police that it would lead to more crime in the vicinity.
Norfolk police said, in a report to South Norfolk Council's licensing act committee, that the Waterfront Inn, in Mere Street, had experienced a number of incidents of crime and disorder this year.
The police were “seriously concerned” that the longer opening hours proposed by owner Greene King “may once again increase the number of incidents of violent crime and disorder at and in the vicinity of the premises”.
However, the committee agreed to vary the licence after hearing that further talks had taken place between the police and applicant.
The permitted opening hours are: 9am-11.30am Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday; 9am-12.30am Thursday; 9am-1.30am Friday and Saturday.
