Plans to construct a disabled ramp at Diss railway station have been tipped for approval.

The ramp would provide level access from the Norwich-bound platform, close to the waiting room, into the adjacent privately-owned car park in Gilray Road.

According to a South Norfolk Council planning report, the town council, although supporting the principle of installing the ramp, has raised concerns that access is to be provided through a privately-owned car park and in respect of the proposed location of the ramp away from the existing pedestrian access.

The document states: “Ideally, it would have been preferable to have the access ramp on public land. However, it is not possible to achieve this at the correct gradient and the proposed ramp will result to vastly improved accessibility to the Norwich-bound platform, which currently only exists over the railway lines.”

The application is recommended for approval and will be discussed at a meeting of the district council's area planning committee tomorrow.
