People are being urged to stop feeding pigeons in Diss town centre as a scheme to solve the persistent problem of droppings by using hawks to scare off the birds continues.
Fay the falcon began work in Mere Street this week with the aim of relocating the pigeon population away from the town centre.
Mark White, from Dealey Bird & Falconry, will be carrying out regular controlled flights three times a week for the first four weeks, reducing to two times a week for following four weeks ending with a once a week flight for the remainder of the 12 months.
Pigeons flee in terror from falcon as town fights poo problemThe scheme has been funded by 25 shops, with the remaining costs covered by Diss Town Council and South Norfolk Council. The initiative is the start of a year-long programme to improve the town centre's cleanliness.
Diss Town Council urged residents and visitors to not feed pigeons at Mere Mouth and only feed ducks appropriate seed to avoid attracting pigeons.
A spokesman said: "We are working with Dealey and a local trader to improve access to the duck pellets and ask that you only feed the pigeons from the park. We are also continuing to work with South Norfolk Council on street cleaning initiatives."
